Are there people you’re friends with on Facebook who you’d rather not chat with? The good news is, you don’t have to. Facebook offers some handy advanced settings that mean you can control your online status before you sign into the chat service. Whether you want to chat in secret from the boss, hide from your annoyingly talkative cousin or only appear as online to one special person, we can help you out.

There’s bound to be a few people you’d rather not chat with on Facebook.
Hiding, or appearing to be offline to certain friends, is simple.

Just click on that person’s name in the chat window, as if you were about to start a conversation, then hit the cog icon in the top-right.

From the menu, click “Go Offline to [Name].”
You are now hidden.

A more detailed walk-through of this process can be found on the next blog.
